ADHD in adulthood is very individual and often doesn't look like the stereotypes — it can show up as chronic disorganization, trouble starting work or finishing what you start, difficulty regulating emotions, and often an awareness that you are working much harder than others but not seeing the results. Often you feel you must be lazy or not smart enough when the explanation is really ADHD.
In your first few sessions I provide a clinical interview in which we explore whether ADHD fits your life experiences. While children require formal assessment tests in order to qualify for school accommodations, adults do not require this in most cases. I also work with adults who already have a diagnosis. (Note: I provide therapy, not testing or medication management — I'm happy to help coordinate with a prescriber if that's part of your care.)
Learning you have ADHD as an adult can be pretty emotionally charged and so ADHD therapy is more than techniques. Therapy is also an opportunity to talk through and understand yourself in light of the diagnosis and to process what your individual symptoms of ADHD (because ADHD comes in many shapes) mean for you--now, in your future goals and in your review of the past.
